Woman showing off perfect absOne of Arnold  Schwarzenegger famous quotes was “Abs were made in the kitchen” and he was partially right. You see people in the gym doing crunches day in and day out and after months they still don’t have abs, we all have our abs concealed underneath our abdominal body fat.

We all carry weight in different places and the last place where that weight seems to come off is the stomach or abdominal area, however it is not practical to think that we can completely eat our way to shredded abs, sure you can eat clean healthy foods but that is not the complete secret to shredded abs. What we can do is watch what we eat and eliminate foods that provoke our body to store fat.

Foods containing sugar are your worst enemy

When you eat, your sugar levels naturally become elevated, this sends a signal to your body to produce more insulin which is the hormone that regulates how your body burns off food, eating starchy carbs or foods that contain sugar causes insulin to only burn off the excess sugar from your meal, preventing it from burning off current fat reserves you currently have stored.

The body needs protein and lean protein acts as a  thermogenic that can help burn fat, it has been proven time and time again that high protein diets are more effective than low calorie or low fat diets, this means eating plenty of fish, chicken, lean beef and green leafy vegetables.

Men and women both have abdominal muscles underneath the fat, the trick here is uncovering them, exercise is key, any kind of cardiovascular exercise such as running, aerobics, or intense weight training can continuously burn fat, and yes if you want more defined abs once they are uncovered abdominal exercises will make them more pronounced and visible.

Building abs in the gym

This almost sound like there are certain exercises you can perform to uncover those abs, unfortunately it does not work that way, many will argue and have different theories on exercises to reveal the abdominal muscles, training your core body parts will give you more of a workout than spending 45 minutes traipsing on a treadmill.

When I say core exercises I refer to the following:

  • Leg exercises which can include a variety of squats, lunges, step-ups stiff legged deadlifts
  • Back exercises such as dumbbell rows, barbell rows, tbar rows
  • Chest exercises such as dumbbell bench press, flyes, barbell bench press and push ups

The above exercises are considered core exercises and performing them with short rest intervals, 30 seconds or less will give you an intense weight training session along with a good cardio workout, you will be amazed at how much faster you will burn fat, burning more fat will bring you closer to revealing those sic pack abdominal muscles.

Fat burners

While there are no miracle diet pills you need to induce your body to as much fat as possible, many fat burners contain ingredients such as caffeine, Garcinia Cambogia and raspberry ketones all which help the  stimulation of thermogenesis making your body more efficient at eliminating fat.

So as you can see there are some very basic things that need to be accomplished to shed fat and uncover those abs, if you stick with it, results can be achieved in a relatively short period of time.
